Why "Cloud-based"?

It is Thanksgiving morning. With an extra-shot latte in the system, I feel it is time to write.

So, why "cloud-based"? What is "cloud" anyway?

In the technical world, especially in software world, ground-breaking technologies grow too slow to satisfy the need of people waiting to take credit or simply showing off at job interviews. So, what do the smart software people do? We come up with new names and put it on top of existing concepts and pretend to be genius.

In my mind, cloud == SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture).

In fact, the concept of "cloud" fits in perfectly with the idea of Industrial Revolution. With Industrial Revolution, specialties are developed. For example, car manufacturers don't want to go into the research of tires. There are people who are really good at researching tires and researching on tires is all that they do and they are super good with it. It makes great economic sense for car manufacturers to simply pay for the service of the professional tire researchers to get excellent tires. The concept of "cloud" is pretty much the same thing. Let people who really know what they are doing and good at what they are doing take care of that certain aspect.

It sounds all good, right? Well, devils are always in the details. How to connect to the cloud? How to enforce transaction management? How to manage authentication and authorization? These are some of the questions that need answered before the cloud computing can be put into any practical usage.

Currently, there are many "cloud"-implementation out there and some are quite good.

Now, to answer the question. why cloud-based? Because I believe that it should be way to go with online interactive media and it does solve many problems that we face right off the bat because of the "cloud-based" architecture.

The world of interactive media

Three years of working for the online side of a publishing company helped me understand many aspects in the online interactive media world. I finally decide that now is the time to blog about it and hopefully, people will read this blog and actually benefits from it besides the entertainment factors. Well, that is my hope.
